End of the first month - time does fly!
ENG4C: This class completed their first report and first Journal last week. This week we will be looking at using some media in the class and examining photo essays and what can be expressed in this form. We will be reviewing some on-line and in magazines and then the class will be doing their own photo essay and presenting them to the class at the end of the week or the beginning of next week.
ENG2D: This class finished their speeches - well done! This week the students will be directing the learning. After two example chapter seminar's are presented to them via the teacher (me), the class will model one of those or try their hand at teaching a different way. Chapter's 3 - 12 of Lord of the Flies has been assigned to small groups of students and it will be their responsibility to teach the class 6-8 very important topics from their chapter. At the end of the seminar's, the Unit test will include information learned from each of the seminars as well as themes discussed by the whole class and the topics covered previous to the novel.
CHC2P: This class is entering WWI. The class has looked at how it all started; "the Spark" and will now move on to some specific battles, military moves and the impact to Canada and Canadians. The class will also examine technological advancements during the war, Canadians that emerged as hero's and finally the class will look at media that portray's war as accurately as possible.

We will move onto the Lord of the Flies and how to present a seminar. They will look at literacy terms used by author's to achieve effects in a novel. We will as a class look at the first chapter together and then, working in partner's begin to breakdown the other chapter's in the novel.

Week of Sept. 14th - 18th
The Second Week!!
The first week went well, there was no homework over the first weekend of the school year!
ENG4C: This class will continue to work on writing three letters of three different styles; formal, semi-formal and casual. This week we will determine which of those letters will be selected for grading. We will also continue to read articles in the textbook, answering questions and completing some oral reading.
ENG2D: This class will be working on two parts to a speech; a written part and an oral part. We will study how best to create a written speech and how to offer the best ideas for editing our peer's work. As well, the class will attempt to get comfortable with their chosen speech topic and prepare to present it to the class next week in 3-5 minutes. At the same time the class will continue to review punctuation and some grammar in an effort to refine their writing.
CHC2P: This class will be looking at the Turn of the Century questions we have been working on last week and addressing any thoughts or concerns the student's have about the subjects covered. The class will begin looking at comparing decades, items, services or products historically and in present day. This will lead the class to look at little closer to the things affecting their lives today and how that might have come about.

Welcome Back !!!!
Hope everyone had a good summer!!!! Welcome back to the new school year.
This first week will be a short review of topics everyone should know to get started.
After the review is over we are jumping right into the curriculum!
ENG2D: We will start with "The Power of Words". We will look at speaking and reading and
will begin with speeches and an explanation of your culminating Book Festival. We will review grammar and parts of speech and a list of new vocabulary words will be introduced to you.
ENG4C: We will begin the semester with a look at articles from your new textbook! These articles will cover topics such as Media and Technology.
CHC2D: We are going to start the semester with a review of the Turn of the Century, making sure that everyone is able to identify important people, facts and events that happened in Canada prior to WWI. A small project will get everyone ready for knowing how to research historical facts/people, what questions to ask about our country, and how to sift through truth vs. fiction on websites and other sources.
As I said Welcome Back - shake off the summer sleepiness and lets get LEARNING!!!!!
