November 15th - 19th and November 22nd and 26th

ENG1D: This class reviewed the concepts covered in the first two units; Literary Devices, Parts of a Narrative and themes. We will be applying these expectations to the new unit, Unit #3 Informational Forms and Voices. As a class we are starting 'Cue for Treason' a novel that takes place during the time of William Shakespeare's early days as a young playwright. It follows the adventures of a young boy from the historic Cumberland county as he flees from a corrupt upper class land owner out for revenge. In addition to the questions with the novel, the class will learn Historic English terms and land formations that they might not be familiar with as it leads into the last unit; Dramatic Forms and Voices, Romeo and Juliet. Terms such as Crags, Dells, Moor and where Blencathra is geographically. The story is fast paced and should be able to hold the student's interest.

ENG1P: This class will review the novel 'The Pigman' and have a quiz on the characters, the issues facing the characters and events from the novel itself. The quiz will be at the end of the first week (18th or 19th).We are continueing to follow the story "Adventures in Shroomville" from the Hamilton Spectator and are at the half-way point in the chapters. Their understanding of the terms used in the story is coming along well. Every other day they define another group of words and the learning is applied later in fill in the blank sentences. The story is reaching an exciting moment for the main character and the class will be able to tie together the two stories; The Pigman and Adventures in Shroomville thematically.
The class has another eight chapters to go with the newspaper story and in addition to the story, they will learn how to write an article for a newspaper, learning about the inverted pyramid style of reporting.

HFN2O: This class is reviewing their previous unit of study, Nutrients, Canada's Food Guide, Diet and Disease, Super Size Me and Food Labels. The class will then view and answer questions on a movie about nutrition to reinforce their learning. The next unit we will look at is Food Addititives, the positive and negative affects that this has on food, the nutritional value of the food and on humans that consume that food - specifically allergies to addititives. We will review yo-yo dieting and the importance of eating properly, small meals throughout the day and all the food groups.
