April 2012

HSP: This class finished their questionnaires, althought some groups were a little slower to get their report typed an submitted, they will all be returned to the groups by the 13th. The class has now turned their attention to the textbook and the sections having to do with personality, what shapes it, were we born with it, what things can go wrong (ie. psychosis, phobias), what role does society have in our personality and how far back have humans behaved this way. April saw the Journal Portfolio submitted again - the marks will be corrected and handed out by the 17th so that each student knows what their mark is. This section, about personality, is interesting and should be fun.

ENG2D: This class is looking at poetry in addition to starting their second class novel and hopefully their second independent novel as well. The class will learn the terms associated with poetry and will begin with lyrics from their favourite song as a help. We will add more terms as we move along with poetry and the emotions behind poems. At the same time the class will start reading the classic novel "Catcher In The Rye". We will follow Holden's decline mentally as he is kicked out of yet another school, is rejected by several woman and loses the only one he really cared for other than his sister. The class will answer questions from the novel, tie in the poetry they are working on, and write a quiz at the end of the novel.

ENG1P: This class is working on non-fiction works from their textbook and will also begin their next novel, a S.E. Hinton that is popular with students. We will continue to work on improving their newspaper article writing and paragraph writing as well. In addition the students are encouraged to add adjectives and adverbs to their work for detail. The class will incorporate modern day technology (on paper) into their novel by creating 'facebook' pages for their characters (each student will be assigned a different character). This will help the students pay attention, read for details, and get to know their character and how they relate to the other characters in the novel.
